Be Nice-Mother Nature is Watching

● Travelers from all over the world come to visit the natural beauty of the Hocking Hills. From listening to the roaring waterfalls to the trickling creeks, protect your experience and others by refraining from loud noises.

● Unsafe behaviors are not only a risk for you, but it is also dangerous for others. Please help us keep our rescue workers safe too!

Use your 5 Senses to experience the Hocking Hills:

Our senses are the gateway to our environment. Using your senses, you can help be a steward of the Hocking Hills:

  • Sight: Be observant of your surroundings and stay on the trail. You may encounter something wild that you would both benefit from avoiding.

  • Smell: Be aware of anything fishy. Campfire not fully out? Leaking gas from a vehicle in a campsite? Make sure you report anything that doesn’t seem right.

  • Hearing: Be aware of people in front and behind you. People are enjoying the sounds of nature, please respect the peace by using quiet voices.

  • Touch: Always keep your kids close and out of harm’s way. Touch the cave walls and enjoy the textures, but don’t leave a permanent mark. Touch doesn’t leave a mark, do not carve into the caves.

  • Taste: Don’t eat anything you find on trail such as mushrooms, as some can be poisonous. When hiking, always keep hydrated and bring snacks. Make sure you take all containers and packaging with you when you leave.

Nobody likes strangers on their private property, and it is no different here in the Hocking Hills. Folks live here too, so please make sure you stay on trail and do not inadvertently cross into someone’s private residence or acreage. Trespassing on private property can bring unfortunate consequences, bad feelings, and a big headache for all involved. Stick to the designated trails which have been designed for your safety as well as your enjoyment.
