If you love the Hocking Hills, leave its wildlife wild and view it from a safe distance.
● There’s a great rule of thumb! Hold up your thumb and if you can cover the entire animal -- including its legs -- with your thumb, you’re at a safe distance.
● There are many salamanders and other small water creatures that you can easily crush killing adults, adolescents, and eggs.
● Never lure an animal with food. It puts both of you and the animal in danger and shortens their lifespan. A single taste of food conditions an animal to hunt for human food over foraging, changes their instinctive fear of humans, and causes them to become dangerously unpredictable.
